Getting Started

Gift baskets are always so lovely to receive no matter what they contain inside!

But if you want to really pamper someone, give them a spa gift basket that you made all by yourself.

It shows how much you care about them, and they will love that it is personalized to their likes and tastes.

The Basket Base

The key to making a wonderful gift basket is to start off with a sturdy basket. Woven baskets look really pretty and can be reused after they are emptied.

But you can also create a beautiful spa gift basket in a waterproof pail or bucket that can be brought into the bath area.

Luxurious Accessories

Include all things that would pamper a person but that she normally wouldn’t buy for herself. Consider a bath pillow that blows up to an extra plush size, a back scrubber with a wooden handle, a bathing puff, a wash cloth in the softest cotton you can find, and a lovely hair tie to hold back her hair while she bathes or does a treatment.

Consider adding a gift card for a massage at a local salon

Pick a Fragrance

The next thing to think about is the fragrance. You should probably stick to one scent so that the basket feels cohesive and not like you threw a bunch of items in all willy-nilly. Go with a scent such as lavender, rose, chocolate, or vanilla.

These are some of the loveliest scents available. But if you walk into a store that sells bath products you will find every fragrance you could ever imagine and more. So, select based on your friend’s personality and tastes. When in doubt, go with vanilla, since everyone loves it.

Fun Additional Options

Include a personalized robe if you really want to wow your friend. Get the puffiest, softest one you can find.

Slippers are a nice addition, too. If you want, include a magazine or a book that your friend can read in the tub.

Anything relaxing, comfortable and soothing is a great addition to a spa gift basket.

Don't Forget the Basics

Spa baskets can be anything you want them to be. From a basic shampoo, conditioner, and lotion basket to a more elaborate robe and spa products basket, you can make it any size and any price point you like. The next time you go shopping, take a look at what is included in some of the gift baskets you see. You’ll find they are all different and yet beautiful in their own ways. Don’t try to be a copy cat, but feel free to borrow ideas for your own unique gift basket. Some people like to include herbal teas, a mug, candles, a bookmark, soaps, soap leaves, powder, a hairbrush, an eye mask, or creams.

Go With a Theme

You can target your basket to one pampering aspect like just the face or just the hands or just the feet.

Make every item in your basket relate to that one body part. You might give a pedicure set along with a bottle of nail polish, foot cream, and a pair of spa socks if you were targeting the feet.

For the hands you might do a cuticle cream, a hand scrub, an exfoliator, lotion gloves for sleeping in, hand repair soap, and a nice bottle of nail polish.

Poll Time

Have you ever made your own gift basket before?

  • Yes, I do it frequently!
  • Yes, but only once or twice.
  • No, but I'd like to try someday.
  • No, I leave it to the professionals.

Finishing Up

Use your imagination and you will find that the spa gift basket is one of the most fun baskets you will ever create.

Think about what you’d love to receive and then include it in a basket for a friend. Be sure to add ribbon and a nice clear wrap around it all when it's complete.

I make gift baskets all the time for holidays and birthdays. Love the idea of adding a gift card to a local day spa along with some bath products. Great ideas here.

Great advice! I have not done this before, but it would be a great gift for just about any kind of occasion: birthday, Christmas, bridal shower, baby shower.
