Planning a Garden Wedding

A garden themed wedding can be among the most beautiful of all big days, but in order to fully work within the theme, the planning must also incorporate garden concepts into even the smallest aspects of your day.

Wedding favors are often overlooked when planning begins, but they, too, offer the opportunity to add to your overall décor, while providing a special way to say “thanks” for those who attend your big day. Be creative with this small detail and the overall effect could be amazing.

Flowers

These are always the first thought of those thinking of a garden, and they can make wonderful wedding favors. Consider giving your guests a potted plant that can either be displayed indoors or replanted in an outdoor garden. There are also a myriad of gift ideas that come in the shape of your favorite flowers. Tulip-shaped wine glasses or glasses etched with images of flowers are one excellent option.

You might also consider flower tins, flower shaped wine stopper favors, or flower key chains engraved with the date of your big day. Another good idea is to go with the plantable wedding favors, these are flat little shapes filled with flower seed that the guests can plant when they get home.

Birds

An undeniable part of any garden, birds offer a number of options when it comes to giving wedding favors.  Consider small birdhouses, bird-shaped ornaments, a nest of candy eggs, or bird seed in small baggies or pressed into a decorative shape, which can later be used to feed local birds.  Packets of seeds could even be given to guests to be thrown over the new couple as they exit the church or place of their ceremony.  They provide a more eco-friendly option than rice or bubbles.

Another great option, which would be absolutely adorable adorning the tables in the reception hall, would be mini birdbaths filled with candy. Faux bird cages meant for use as outdoor ornaments are also adorable to display and make wonderful gifts.

Decorative Garden Objects

Aside from birdbaths, bird feeders, or birdhouses, there are many traditional garden decorations that could also be used as possible wedding favors.  One lovely idea would be to give guests a decorative garden flag to hang in their own gardens.  You might even have special ones made with the bride and grooms names and the date of the wedding embroidered on them.  Small garden statues, engraved stones, or mosaics can all be great ideas for the big day as well.

Rocks

They are not always the most welcomed feature of a garden, but they exist there nonetheless.  So, why not embrace that fact?  Engraved rocks, which were already mentioned, can be found to read a number of different inspirational terms.  Placing a few small engraved stones in a see-through bag would make an adorable little favor.

Some brides, with a more playful personality, might even choose to give pet rocks as favors.  Though the traditional pet rock would be perfectly acceptable, there are also more extravagant pet rocks available for sale.  Artists make the stones into gorgeous little garden friendly creatures.  From ladybugs and snakes, to owls and eagles, these cute little creatures would be adorable on any wedding table.
