Nursery Theme Ideas for Girls
69Getting Started
Nothing is sweeter than a baby girl. If you’re expecting or adopting one, you’ll want to start thinking of nursery ideas that will welcome the little one into her new home.
Often times if you think of a nursery theme before your baby shower, you can also set it as your baby shower theme and use that to help with your decor.
Think Beyond Pink
Sure, pink is perfect for little girls, but why limit yourself to one color? You can pair pink with chocolate browns for an adorable color palate. Paint the walls in a favorite shade of pink and then add circles in varying sizes of chocolate paint. A polka dot theme is always cute and cheerful. Pair with pillows with dots and trims in browns and pinks. Add a circular rug that is either pink or brown. Color schemes in shades of green and purple is another cute idea for a little girl.
One Way to Go Glam (Pink)
Would you go glam-pink if you knew you were having a baby girl?

A Doll’s House
Turn the nursery into a life size doll house. Paint “rooms” on one wall by partitioning off sections and painting them with different room vignettes. Show a bathroom, a bedroom, a playroom, living room, dining room. If you’re not an artist, you can hire one. Or you can cut out images and make a wall collage that looks like wallpaper.
Have fun with this theme. Create cubby holes and a bookcase with a slanted roof complete with shingles. Use personalized childrens chairs to really make it special. Have Barbies and other dolls as part of the décor. You can include as many accessories as you like, including pillows and rugs that support the doll house theme.
Retro Toys
Toys that you loved as a young person can be incorporated into a nursery theme. Did you love Cabbage Patch Kids or Hello Kitty? Snap them up on ebay or at flea markets and use them as the basis of your décor. You can do an entire room with Disney characters from the 1930s or with Barbie and Ken and their accessories. What about old dog toys from the 1940s or cats from the 1950s? Select a period of time and then zero in on the toys that children of that era would have enjoyed. Add picture books from the era and fun rugs and curtains. You can even paint the crib in a style that matches your theme.

Some More Nursery Ideas
Sunshine
Do you want your baby to wake up to a sunny day every day? Well you can always create a nursery that sparkles with sunshine and rainbows in just a few easy steps.
Paint the crib a bright yellow. Have yellow curtains. Paint clouds and birds and blue sky on the upper part of the walls, and then add some grass on the bottom portion.
You can include a giant sun as the focal point of the walls. Sun-shaped stuffed toys and a mirror or drawer pulls with suns on them are also nice additions.
Kids of the World
You want your daughter to experience life to the fullest. So give her a head start by decorating the nursery with multicultural kids.
Include dolls and toys from all around the world.
Have books that celebrate the stories of children in different countries. Paint the walls in bright colors and make collages of photos of all different children.
You could even have an artist come in and paint life size cartoon children of many ethnic origins.
Teddy Bear Tea
Combine the tea party with teddy bears and you have a dream room. This theme is very easy to do. Pick up miniature or antique tea sets in your travels or on ebay. Have them displayed on shelving around the room. Have a small children’s table and chairs where you can have teddy bears attend a tea party, and then bring in plastic children’s foods and other kitchen playthings. As your daughter grows up, she’ll get more and more involved in making tea for teddy and friends.
Decorating a nursery for your baby girl can be lots of fun, so let your imagination take off! With a little time and effort, you can create a beautiful and fun space for your baby to grow up in.
