Ideas For A 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary Party
71
A couple who has reached the 50 year milestone in marriage is a special couple, indeed!
If you’re thinking about planning a party
to celebrate this anniversary, then you may be surprised that there are many different and unique ways to plan the party.
From traditional to nontraditional, here are some great ideas for making the day
memorable for the couple of honor.
Consider the Couple
While family and friends might want to throw a very fancy party that lasts all night, consider the age and health of the couple. You may want to consult with them and find out what they would consider the ideal party. Their ideas may surprise you. They might want something low-key with just immediate family or have a favorite restaurant in mind.
With all the logistics of getting out of town relatives in and coordinating families, you might not choose to keep it a surprise. If it’s going to be out in the open, let the couple suggest themes and ideas that are meaningful to them. After all, it’s their celebration.
50th Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas
Go for the Gold
Gold is considered the standard for a 50th wedding anniversary. You can incorporate gold in any number of ways. You can keep it subtle by having gold anniversary centerpieces, napkins, plates and cutlery, or choose bursts of gold streamers, balloons, noisemakers, banners, favors and more.
One special way to incorporate gold is by having a golden medal ceremony. You can make it into the Marriage Olympics and award the couple the gold for finishing well. Or you can continue the gold theme by having a Golden Oldies party where you play tunes from the era they married. There are lots of 50th anniversary party favors and props available to make the gold theme upscale and fun. You could even ask guests to bring gold anniversary gift baskets in keeping with the theme.
Hobby Hangout
Does the couple of honor love to play Bridge? Scrabble? Backgammon? You can build a whole theme around the couple’s interests and hobbies. Set up card tables and have playing cards themed decor such as paper plates, napkins and cups. Offer playing cards as anniversary party favors. Set up the actual game of their choice at several stations so guests can sit down and play a round or two. Offer bridge mix and peanuts and chips as snacks. Make it a real card or game party.
If Scrabble is their game, you’re in luck. You can create a cake that mimics a scrabble board, spell out fond wishes in scrabble tiles, offer letter chocolates for the guests, and of course play the game!
Hit the Links
If the couple loves golfing, you can either take the party to the golf course, or you can create a golf course of your own indoors. Have the guests come in golf attire and have golf clubs as props. Have golf ball candies and tee-shaped chocolates as your favors. Create a mini golf course indoors with fun props and let the guests actually play. If you can rent a golf cart, you can dress it up with streamers and gold balloons and let the couple ride in it as they visit guests at their tables.
King and Queen
After 50 years of marriage, the couple of honor deserves to be celebrated as king and queen for the day. Go all out and make a throne on a raised platform. You can decorate two chairs and offer them crowns and robes to wear for the day. Ask the guests to bring some sort of prop or accessory. They could dress in medieval garb if you choose that route, or you could provide paper props from a party outlet that carry the theme through.
You can serve drinks in plastic goblets and serve a feast of roast beef or suckling pig and serve everything family style as in a royal court. You can run out a red carpet and provide favors like scepters and small crowns. Have a banner made announcing “King Larry and Queen Abby Celebrate 50 Years.” There are so many variations to this theme. You could have a fairytale court set up complete with props that create a royal carriage and castle. Let your imagination run wild!

Great ideas! Fifty years of wedded bliss definitely deserves a big party. I hosted a 40th anniversary party for my in-laws last year....lots of work, but they were SO happy.
What a nice hub. Liked your ideas. Joining your fanclub and would like to invite you to join mine. :)
Wonderful Hub! I have been fortunate enough to see some couples who have been together for 50 years and more. Considering the times we are in, that definitely is a great accomplishment. If you can afford it, giving them a Holiday Package would be a great idea.
Thanks for adding my Hub on related links. I have another Hub on Wedding Anniversary Gifts
